About Us

The Life Sciences Division's Facilities Utilization Office (FUO) at NASA's Ames Research Center (ARC) provides oversight for the CGBR. The FUO operates the CGBR with a team of dedicated engineers, scientists, and technicians. The FUO staff assists investigators with planning and implementing the use of the facilities. Resident science advisors provide counsel to investigators in an effort to maximize the accomplishment of research objectives. An Experiment Support Coordinator (ESC) communicates regularly with an investigator to develop and refine an experiment's requirements. The ESC documents the experiment planning process and assists with the implementation of the experiment at ARC.

Artificial Gravity

Artificial Gravity: Why Is It Important?
  • How much G is enough? For what systems and under what conditions?

  • Design of transit vehicles and surface operations on Moon/Mars

Major Studies:
  • Use humans and animals to minimize deconditioning on Earth using artificial gravity (centrifugation)

  • Use model organisms to predict G adaptation and transitions in humans

End Products:
  • Artificial Gravity Prescription

  • Biological and behavioral considerations
